After rushing around all week to classes, meetings, social events, the library, and more classes, sometimes college students need a night in rather than going out and painting the town red.

Here are some ideas on what you can do to have an awesome night in at your apartment.

1. Make Something Yummy. You don’t have to run out and get ingredients but instead use whatever you have in your fridge and cabinets to make something delicious.

Look up easy recipes online or break out the cookbook and look for simple recipes you can make from what you’ve got. You can make yourself a nice dinner or bake some kind of yummy dessert and then indulge yourself on your night in or if you’re having friends over, have a potluck or cook or bake something together.

2. Watch a Movie or TV Show. Instead of going out to a bar or to see a movie in theaters, watch a movie at home.

You can have a movie marathon where you watch all those movies you missed in theaters that you’ve been meaning to see or have a throwback movie night where you watch your favorite movies or ones from your childhood.

If you’re not in the mood to watch a movie, spend your night in watching TV episodes you missed over the last week or binge-watching a series.

3. Get Sucked into the Internet. Spend your night in just surfing the net and wasting time. While you may end up doing this during the week when you’re supposed to be doing other things, tonight you can do it guilt-free.

Do some online window shopping or start your search for the holiday presents early. The hours will just slip away as you visit sites like Amazon, Buzzfeed, Etsy, Pinterest, Tumblr and more.

4. Do Some Karaoke. You don’t need a karaoke machine to have a karaoke night in your apartment. You can just go on YouTube and search for different songs’ karaoke versions and then have a singalong.

Look up ’80s classics like Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” or bring sexy back with some old school Justin Timberlake, NSYNC-style. Whether you’re flying solo or hanging with a group, set up your laptop as your karaoke center and then let the singing begin!

5. Read a Book. With all the readings you have to do for school, oftentimes pleasure reading falls to the wayside.

Enjoy your night in by cuddling up with a book that’s been on your reading list that you haven’t gotten around to or reread an old favorite.

Don’t have anything to read? Borrow a book from your roommate or search through Amazon’s free ebooks for Kindle, which you can enjoy without an ebook reader by downloading the Kindle app to your computer.

6. YouTube It Up. A night in is a great time to catch up on all those YouTube videos you’ve been seeing all over your Twitter and Facebook. Get ready for crazy cats, cute babies, TV show segments, celebrity interviews, music covers, movie trailers and more.

Plus, with the whole night ahead of you, you have time to stumble across great new videos you’ve never seen before without feeling like you should be doing something else. Spending your night on YouTube will seriously make your night fly by.

7. Two Words: Dance. Party. Whether you’re alone or with friends, staying in gives you the perfect opportunity to have a dance party.

Plus, staying in means you control the music; you can break out the oldies but goodies like the Isley Brothers’ “Shout” or get crazy to newer songs like Lil’ Jon’s “Turn Down For What.”

Pick whatever you want to play, then crank up the tunes, dance away the stresses of the week and just let yourself go.

8. Have a Game Night. If you’re having a night in with friends, make it a game night. Break out the cards, Pictionary, board games, or get ready for a game of Charades.

It’s the perfect alternative to a night out as you still get to hang with friends and socialize but this way, you also get to have some friendly competition and good fun smack talk.

9. Sleep! Most college students don’t get enough sleep and many pull all-nighters frequently throughout the semester. You’re going to bed late and getting up early which means your sleep habits are out of whack and you’re depriving yourself of much-needed z’s.

So if you are staying in rather than going out, you can choose to not even really do anything but instead just get in PJs and hit the sack early. Plus, by getting a solid night’s sleep and then some, you’ll feel refreshed, invigorated, and ready to take on the town the following night.

So the next time you don’t feel like going out and instead want to stay in your apartment, whether alone or with friends, try one of these ideas to make your night in awesome.
